Make a Plan. Build a Kit. Create a Profile.
When a disaster or regional emergency occurs, minimizing its impact on you and your family and even survival depends on proper planning. Having a family communications plan if you are not together, designating a familiar meeting place, knowing evacuation routes and shelter plans and assembling an emergency preparedness kit are all critical steps for being prepared. It is also crucial to sign up for emergency alerts and warnings from your local and state emergency management agencies.
The California Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) has funded an emergency notification system for all local emergency management agencies to provide emergency alerts to their communities. Signing up for local emergency alerts allows you to receive critical and timely information from public safety officials for situations such as wildfires, evacuation orders and road closures.

Stay Safe and Informed
Services in your area may vary but can include…
Safety Profile
Enables 9-1-1 and first responders to help you faster in an emergency.
Alerts and Notifications
Stay informed of weather, traffic, and other emergencies in your community.
Access & Functional Needs
Helps emergency managers better prepare to serve the whole community, know when to send notifications, and provide you with enhanced alerting before, during, and after disasters.
Your Safety Profile Is Free, Private, And Secure
In addition to signing up for emergency alerts, the state Alert & Warning System also allows California residents to create a free and secure safety profile. Information contained within a safety profile – preferred languages, modes of communication, addresses, health conditions, emergency access instructions, mobility limitations, power-dependent equipment, and more – can be made automatically available to a 9-1-1 call taker anywhere in the U.S. that subscribes to Smart911 or by your local emergency management officials to better prepare for a disaster. Information in your profile can help first responders locate you faster or send the right resources if, for example, you are unable to effectively communicate with 9-1-1. You control what information you would like to be shared during an emergency or before a disaster.
